Amanda Lambros set up Grief Recovery Method (AUS) in 2013 in order to increase the number of people with direct access to the Grief Recovery Method in Australia and New Zealand. It is an organisation dedicated to helping the greatest number of grievers in the shortest amount of time and offers help to both individual grievers and train those who wish to help others.
Amanda works closely with John James and Russell Friedman to ensure the programs are delivered in the format proven over 30 years of work at the Grief Recovery Institute in the USA.
After working for numerous years as a Counsellor, specialising in Grief and Loss as well as Couples and Relationships, Amanda realised that something was missing from her toolkit - it was the ability to truly help people move beyond loss, rather than stay stuck with the loss. After a diligent search, she realised that Grief Recovery Method was probably the best fit for what she was looking for to fill the gap. Amanda made the decision to complete the training by flying to Canada to train over 4-days in the Certification Training. During the training, Amanda experienced a major loss and it was through that experience that she realised that THIS - Grief Recovery Method - was the missing link. Immediately, she spoke to John James, the Founder of Grief Recovery Method and enquired about how to get this training to Australia. After some negotiations and plenty of international flights back to various parts of North America, Amanda became the Executive Director of GRM Australia & New Zealand!
Amanda has since undergone comprehensive training with Russell Friedman and the Grief Recovery Method Founder John James to be skilled enough to train others to become Certified Grief Recovery Specialists.
Amanda is now quite happily married with two young boys. Although raised in Canada, she has been living in Australia since 2003. Now with more than 15 years of experience working in the counselling, education and training fields - both private and public sectors, nationally and internationally, Amanda has a private practice, is a clinical supervisor, a lecturer and International Guest Speaker.

John W. James founded the Grief Recovery Institute thirty years ago as a solution when he couldn’t find the resources he needed to deal with his own overwhelming grief at the death of his infant son. Since then the Institute has expanded to include sister organizations in Canada, England, Sweden, and Mexico. Our mission is to deliver grief recovery assistance to the largest number of people in the shortest amount of time.
John is internationally recognized as one of the foremost authorities on grief in the world today. Along with the Institute partner, Russell Friedman, John is the co-author of three benchmark books on the topic of recovery from loss, The Grief Recovery Handbook, When Children Grieve, and Moving On. He is a visiting faculty member at UCLA, Chapman University, the University of Southern California and has guest lectured at Kings College in London. He has delivered workshops and programs for the State of Ohio Dept. of Health, the National SIDS Foundation, and the LAPD and Sheriff’s Departments, to name a few. He is a leading advocate for veterans and has trained military personnel on bases all over the country.
Russell Friedman arrived at the Grief Recovery Institute in 1986 on the heels of a second divorce and a bankruptcy. After dealing with the emotions caused by those and other losses, he began a rigorous training under the guidance of the Institute founder, John W. James, eventually becoming a partner and co-author of The Grief Recovery Handbook, When Children Grieve, and Moving On. Together, Russell and John co-developed the Grief Recovery Method Outreach Program, which has helped more than 500,000 people all over the country and abroad.
Russell has become the go-to Grief Recovery expert on CNN. He has appeared on that network many times, most notably in the wake of 9/11. He has made a number of media appearances in the aftermath of national tragedies, most recently on The Today Show, in response to the death of Michael Jackson to help guide parents when children suffer loss. He is also a guest lecturer at local academic institutions and has consulted with major companies who are learning that unresolved loss has a negative impact in the work place.
